A recycling solution for animals, for people, and for the earth.
Have you ever thought about recycling your pets’ food and treat bags?An estimated 300 million pounds of flexible plastic pet food and treats bags are made in the U.S. each year. But, because of the way different plastics are layered during the bags’ construction, it is nearly impossible to separate the layers using current recycling technologies. And, the cost of recycling is more than the value of the materials in the package. As a result, it’s estimated that over 99% of all pet food and treat bags end up in landfills. That is a lot!
But the good news is that you and your pet can help make a difference! We are excited to share that as industry stewards, Pet Pros was invited to participate in a new recycling pilot program called Flex Forward.
Participation is easy. Simply bring your empty pet food and treat bags (all brands are accepted) back to one of our stores and drop them in the Flex Forward bin.Our distributor will pick up the packaging during their normal delivery route to minimize additional transportation miles. The recycler will grind down the packaging into pellets that can be re-crafted into usable pet products for animal shelters and rescue groups across the country. How cool is that?
So simple. So sustainable. Thank you, in advance, for your help with this important program!PILOT PROGRAM UPDATE: So far, 4,500 pounds of bags have been collected by participating retailers. This is close to meeting the program goal of 5,000 pounds! We’ll provide progress reports as the pilot continues.
